The Montclair Women's Big Band has performed for the Grammys, at the Kennedy Center and the gala opening of the SFJAZZ Center, and appeared on NPR’s Marian McPartland and Piano Jazz. In 2016 MWBB will perform at the Monterey Jazz Festival and release a CD of compositions by women, Women’s Work, available with all of its recordings on CD Baby. Highly talented vocalist Kenny Washington, singing with over a 4-octave range, uses his rich tenor to scat with the harmonic daring and rhythmic command of a bebop saxophonist, croon with simmering soul, and interpret standards with a unique level of intelligence and emotional commitment. He grew up in New Orleans performing gospel, and after college and singing with US Navy Band for 9 years, he settled in SF and has played and recorded locally with saxophonist Michael O’Neill and in NYC with vibes player Joe Locke.
