The first week of performances following the Grand Opening is devoted to local artists who have helped make San Francisco a rich and diverse hotspot for jazz creation. These musicians have established themselves as truly world-class performers, and we’re honored to have them grace the stage at the SFJAZZ Center.
Thursday night is a super-powered celebration of the big band, featuring Jazz Mafia kingpin Adam Theis with his 20-piece Realistic Orchestra and the superb Montclair Women's Big Band led by veteran trumpeter Ellen Seeling. These two groups present vastly different takes on the big band tradition, exploring the thrilling range of expression possible in a large group jazz setting. Opening the show is our own SFJAZZ High School All-Stars Orchestra.
